August 13, 1956 - August 11, 2020
Denise Lee Morris, 63, danced her way to the gates of Heaven on August 11, 2020. Denise, or “Nesie” as much of her family calls her, is best-known for her laugh, infectious personality, and witty Halloween costumes. She was the life of the party, and to know her was to love her. She never met a stranger, and certainly didn’t mind oversharing- from random strangers in a waiting room, to the anonymous personnel calling on the phone that she’d never met, to the co-workers that were like family, anyone and everyone could hear the whole story. Every. Single. Word. She was the daughter of the late Love Elliott “L.E.” Ross and Shirley Staton. She was the youngest of the five “Ross girls,” and constantly ran in the shadows of her sisters, Veda, Dorothy, Sandy, and Sheila. She always liked to say that their mama loved her best, and I guess she was right because her mama got HER back first. She spent exactly 36 years married to the love of her life, Gary. You could write a romance novel about their type of love…or just listen to their song, “Islands In The Stream.” She was happiest when those around her were happy. His hobbies were her hobbies—taking care of the cows, tinkering around the house, mowing the yard, and watching trashy TV together. Together, she and Gary have three daughters Chasity (Chris), Farrah (Craig) and Bri (Kyle). She liked her daughters, but she loved her grandchildren, Codi (Jessica), Callie, Ross, and Elliott, and great-grandchildren, Kase, Hayden, and Kenzi. Christmas was Denise’s favorite holiday. She spent the better part of the months from September to December figuring how best to spoil her family on Christmas Day. She always had a direct line to Santa Claus, and together, they were able to do wonders. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to Farmers and Merchants Bank, c/o “Nesie’s Nice List”, PO Box 696, DeWitt, Arkansas 72042. This year her family would like to honor her memory by providing gifts to those most in need in the DeWitt community. Funeral services will be 3:00 p.m. Thursday, August 13 at First Baptist Church with burial in Forks LaGrue Cemetery. Masks must be worn inside the church.
