Mrs. Phyllis Vansandt

April 20, 1942 - June 18, 2020

Phyllis Vansandt, age 78, passed away on Thursday, June 18, 2020. She was born April 20, 1942 in Warren to Edna & Russell West. Phyllis was a member of Saint Charles Baptist Church. Before her move to Saint Charles she was a long-standing member at Unity Baptist in DeWitt. She loved to sing in the choir and help with the children programs. Phyllis was a Hair Stylist owning her own salon, Cut & Curl for over 20 years. Her beauty shop was a home of friendship for her clients and two sister-n-laws that worked beside her. She loved fixin' hair as she would say in her southern way. She also loved her clients, and many were still friends until her death. Phyllis loved her family dearly. She adored her husband and children as well as her sisters, brothers, cousins, nieces and nephews. She was a great cook and had many requests for her chicken and dumplins along with her chocolate sheet cake! She was preceded in death by her parents; brother Steve West; sister Betty Pearman; and her son-in-law Mike Bassett. She was also preceded in death by her Vansandt family W.H. "Dub" (Wilma Jean) Vansandt, Richard Vansandt, Cecil (Irene) Vansandt, Juanita (VL) Childs, Emmie Vansandt, and Wayne Snyder. She leaves behind the love of her life for 58 years, Gary Vansandt; one daughter Gari Lynn Bassett; one son and a cherished daughter-in-law Kirk & Holly Vansandt; one grandson Brett Bassett; two sisters, Gail (Charlie) Horned of Conway and Kathy Griffith of Stuttgart; two brothers, Mike West of Texarkana, AR and Johnny (Darlene) West of Casscoe. Also surviving her are her Vansandt brothers and sisters-in-laws Kenny Vansandt of Marianna, Donald (Pat) Vansandt, Winnie (Billy) Cotton, and Cathlene Snyder all of DeWitt. There will be a private family graveside at Cedarcrest Memorial Gardens by Essex Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to St. Charles Baptist Church, P.O.
