Mrs. Shirley Ann Ruffin Dollar Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

Shirley Ann Ruffin Dollar, 77, of DeWitt, went to be with her Lord on February 15, 2022. She was born October 26, 1944, in DeWitt to H.C. and Marie Murphy Ruffin. Shirley was an avid gardener and was gifted with the proverbial “green thumb”. Her garden was always a beautiful sight to see, and she freely shared its bounty with everyone. She had a love of nature and all of God’s creations. No stray animal ever came along that didn’t find a safe place, a good meal, and a loving welcome. Her yard was full of trees that were found in local fence rows as seedlings and relocated to become shade trees for her or one of her kids. She loved to cook, but even more, she loved to share what she cooked with friends and family. She spent many years as a legal secretary and was able to prepare a brief or take down an entire deposition using old-fashioned shorthand learned from Mrs. Anna at DHS. Shirley was preceded in death by her parents; one sister, Connie Ruffin; her husband, Bill; and one daughter, Kim Ellis. She is survived by three children: Julie Wright, Heather Wright (Gregg), and Clay Dollar (Brandi) all of DeWitt; seven grandchildren: Trent Ellis, Courtney Sisco, Dylan Wright, Drake Wright, Tarryn Keller, Nicholas Wright, and Riley Dollar; four great-grandchildren; and one sister, Wanda Roberson (Don) of DeWitt. Services will be 2:00 p.m. February 18 at McAdams Road Church by Essex Funeral Home. Visitation will be Thursday, February 17, from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Essex Funeral Home.
