Mrs. Delia Mae "Sis" Hudspeth

Delia Mae "Sis" Hudspeth, 100 years old, of DeWitt, Arkansas, passed way peacefully on Wednesday, May 17, 2017 at Crestpark Nursing Home in her hometown of DeWitt. Delia Mae "Sis" is preceded in death by her husband Earl, her son Denny, her daughter in laws Holly C. and Dana Hudspeth, her brothers Floyd and Clyde Murrell, and parents Artemus and Mae Bell (Hamlin) Murrell. She is survived by her sons Bobby (Charlcie) of Conway, Arkansas and Johnny (Mary Beth) of Austin, Arkansas. "Sis" was blessed with eight grandchildren, twenty-two great-grandchildren, and seven great-great-grandchildren. "Sis" was born on December 30, 1916. She married her teenage sweetheart, Earl Hudspeth of Gillett, Arkansas. This union was blessed with three sons, the late Hugh Denman "Denny", Robert Carroll "Bobby", and John David "Johnny. She filled her days making life easier for her hard working farming men. "Sis" was an excellent country cook and regularly prepared home cooked meals for her husband, sons, and grandsons. She was famous for her peanut and pecan brittle using her father's recipe and zinc board. Neighbors, friends, and family were recipients of her delicious brittle. "Sis" was known for her generosity and friendly disposition. "Sis" was a faithful life long member of the First Christian Church in DeWitt. She made sure that she and her family were in church every Sunday, and that her purse was filled with peppermints to share with those sitting nearby. In later years, one of her greatest joys in life was spoiling the grandchildren and great-grandchildren. "Sis" never visited her family empty handed. She always brought a surprise whenever a quick stop was made. Her treats were often the latest new cereal, snack product, or beanie baby. A camera was always handy to capture the moment when family was close by. The legacy "Sis" leaves behind is one that will not be forgotten by the many whose lives she touched. She made a lasting impression on her family and all who knew her. "Sis" was a generous soul who had a gift for making people feel special and loved. Her smile and warm personality were with her to the end. Visitation will be 1:00 p.m., Saturday, May 20th at the First Christian Church in DeWitt, Arkansas. Funeral services will follow at 2:00 p.m. with Brother Dwayne Hornbeck officiating. Burial will take place at DeWitt Cemetery. Arrangements are by Essex Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the First Christian Church, 1801 S. Grandview Dr., DeWitt, AR 72042.
